Merrick Foundation Doubles the Impact!

Sometimes, choosing just one isn't enough!  What began as an opportunity to award one $50,000 Community Impact Grant turned into something even bigger when the Merrick Foundation Board of Directors decided that two outstanding community projects deserved support.

Merrick Foundation is excited to announce that Central City and Silver Creek have each been awarded $50,000, bringing the total investment through the 2026 Community Impact Grant Program to $100,000!

The program was created to encourage communities throughout Merrick County to think big, identify meaningful needs, and develop projects that would make a lasting difference for their residents.

After reviewing applications and hearing presentations from the finalists, the Board faced a difficult decision. Both communities brought forward projects that demonstrated thoughtful planning, community support, and the potential for long-term impact.  Rather than selecting one recipient, the Board voted to fund both.

"We went into this process expecting to award one $50,000 grant, but both communities presented projects that we felt were deserving of support," said Shauna Graham, Chief Development Officer of Merrick Foundation. "Our Board recognized the opportunity to make a meaningful investment in two communities, and we're excited to see both projects become a reality."

Central City – New Tennis Courts and Improved Park Access

Central City's $50,000 award will support the construction of new tennis courts at Central Park, expanding the recreational opportunities already available at the popular community destination.

The project will also address a longstanding challenge at South Park. The existing, deteriorating tennis courts will be converted into additional parking to better accommodate the many youth softball and baseball activities held there.

The improvements will benefit local families, athletes, and visitors while helping Central City continue to grow as a destination for recreation and youth sporting events.  Construction is anticipated in spring 2027.

Silver Creek – Creating a Pathway for Community Connection

Silver Creek's $50,000 award will help bring the community's Pathway and Park Improvement Project to life.

The project will create a new walking and biking pathway connecting recreational areas within the community, providing a safer and more accessible place for residents of all ages to walk, ride bikes, exercise, and spend time outdoors.

The pathway will connect the ballfield, park, and pond areas, creating opportunities for families to enjoy the community together.  The Village of Silver Creek has already demonstrated its commitment to the project by securing $25,000 in local funding and identifying additional fundraising opportunities.

Beyond the pathway itself, the community envisions future enhancements, including benches, landscaping, and recreational amenities that will help create a welcoming gathering place for years to come.

Investing in the Future of Merrick County

"We created this program because we wanted to encourage communities to think about what could make a difference for their residents," Graham said. "It's exciting to see those ideas turn into projects, and even more exciting that we're able to support two of them. We're looking forward to seeing the impact these investments will have for years to come."
